War
This issue, on ‘savaş’ (war) was being published around the same time as Valentine’s Day in 2002 just before the US invasion of Afghanistan. Screen shot images of bombings during Second World War from Ethem Özgüven’s (a turkish documentary film-maker) documentary called ‘anti-war‘ were used on four pages. Quotes from İlhan Berk’s (a Turkish poet) poetry were written as subtitles under the images. A heart-shaped piece on the centre of the pages were cut out and the two cut-outs were inserted in the magazine. The heart-shaped cut-outs were contoured in blood red, reminiscent of both the color of war and of Valentine’s day.
